Candles Are Lights Too

Making our mark. We all want to do it. We want to do something big, something important; to change to world, to change lives. To be a brightly burning star, dashing across the sky, spraying light and sparks in a trail of glory behind us! — that is our dream.

And as Christians we still have this desire. Maybe it doesn’t manifest itself in the same ways: wanting to be a famous singer, becoming a billionaire, running for president; but we still feel it. There is still that title of important, world-changing Christian: the pastors, the missionaries, the rebelutionaries. Sometimes, in the words of my friend, we just “want to do something crazy, like drop everything, sell it all, and go be a missionary in a foreign country!”

Loving Mondays: Unworthy Royalty

I always wanted to be a princess.

I’m sure every little girl does. Long gowns and longer balls, that always sounded lovely to me. Palaces, ponies, but best of all, the prince. Loving Mondays: Down time

Today’s blog post: God still loves you when your tired, when you need a break, and when you’ve been running around everywhere. When your hair is a frizzled mess, when all you want to do is sit and eat chocolate, and when you really need to shower. He still sees us just as beautiful, just as loved, just as precious. So don’t stress about it. He made rest for a reason.

And sometimes it’s ok to just sit on the couch with your family, eating M&M’s and watching the Olympics in your pj’s.

Because we are always secure in His love.

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee. (Psalm 116:7)

The Insanity of the Incarnation

Have you ever thought about how shocking, even scandalous Jesus is? Not even necessarily what He said or what He did. Just the very idea of Jesus Himself. The Incarnation is utterly incomprehensible.

Imagine if you were the richest, most powerful business-man in the world. Solely because you loved the ants, no, something worse than that, mosquitos, would you consent to become one? Continue reading
